A chocolate lovers must visit! Visited KaoKao Chocolates to do a 2-hour tour and hands-on chocolate making demonstration. Had a great time learning about its history and how chocolate is harvested, processed, and made into the stuff we all love. Our guide, Nancy, was awesome explaining the different types of chocolate and providing samples for us to taste. Made two discs of chocolate to take home (along with all the other items I bought from the gift-shop). Highly recommended if you have some time in Cozumel.

Must do experience, Choc-aholics, this is your thing. This experience was an absolute treat! 90 minutes of tasting, seeing and doing! Nancy, our lovely young tour guide, was so much fun. She led us through a slide show of the growing, harvesting, and processing the cocoa beans. We learned about the Mayan history of the beans and chocolate. You’ll be put to work grinding and making your own drinking chocolate to take home. It’s a must do excursion, family friendly and you can’t beat the price. Be prepared, you’ll want to have a bit of spending money for their fantastic little shop!

Real Mexican Chocolate - You don’t want to miss it! KaoKoa is a hidden gem within an authentic Cozumel neighborhood. A great way to view what Cozumel is ‘really’ like, outside of the tourist areas. We’re not genuinely the “tour” type of travelers however we did enjoy this tour, learning how chocolate originated and is made today. Our tour guide, Jafet was very knowledgeable and personable. We had a wonderful time from start to finish—-tasting chocolate and making our own to take with as a souvenir. Also has a nice little gift shop to purchase real Mexican chocolate & vanilla. Note: If you enjoy walking (which we do), we walked from Palmar Condominiums to Kaokao in just under an hour. It’s probably about a 25 minute walk from the downtown cruise port/Ultramar ferry. Of course, there are taxis too (200 pesos from the Palmar Condos to KaoKao - an elderly traveler with us in her mid-70s took a taxi instead) but if you have the time, consider exploring the neighborhood on the way.

Chocolate from start to finish Our tour guide, Stephanie, was the best! It was obvious that she loves her job and she made sure we enjoyed every minute of our tour. She took us through the process of making chocolate from cacao beans to chocolate bars. We tasted a typical hot chocolate drink and made our own individual chocolate bars. There was a variety of products available to purchase in their store and we loaded up before we left. This tour is our favorite tour of the island.

Amazing Chocolate Tour This was an amazing experience! We did the chocolate tour with our guide Stephanie, who was as knowledgeable as she was friendly. We learned the history of chocolate, the whole process and also made our own. Would definitely recommend to anyone. The best thing I can say is that we will be back!

What a fun activity! It's ~$8/person for a 30 min talk on the history of chocolate and a tasting of each of their ~20 chocolates. Park in the neighborhood and ring the bell when you get there, they'll come right out to let you in.

I used to be a travel writer and owned a travel business. In 2008, I met Joshue and Maryline as they were only a few years in business. They are a lovely couple and as they shared their passion for chocolate with me, I became hooked. For 6 years I visited many times, I wrote about them, and I sent people to take their tour. I got out of the travel business in 2016 and could not get back in for 5 years due to signing a non-compete agreement. I will get back in the travel business in a year or so and will look forward to visiting Chocolates Kaokao again as well as take customers to them. I highly recommend them.
